Dramas of being a homeowner

We love being homeowners finally, but unfortunately not everything has gone very smoothly. Mind you, we have only been here a little over 2 weeks. Here are some highlights:

We had our blinds installed. After some frustration/problems actually getting them ordered, 2 were broken, one the installer had measured wrong (the patio door), and one he forgot his ladder for. Since then, we found one more broken one. So we reordered. After a couple weeks, I checked with the store and they had received 2 of them (not sure when they were going to tell us though), and we were just waiting on the patio door. It has now been over 3 weeks and we are still waiting. I have been bugging them about it and found out today that they were supposedly left on our front porch last Tuesday. But did we get them- no. so now we have to wait for them to reorder- again. We are about 2 feet form our neighbors though and have found construction workers staring through the unblinded windows on more than one occasion. URG!

Another day last week, we finally cleaned out the living room enough to unroll our new rug (our downstairs is tile and I can't stand walking on it). So we get it all unrolled and put in place. Only to find that it had a flaw in it. Back to the store it went. And we have to reorder. URG!

Mark went to Costco to get new tires on his car. They ordered them and we waited for them to call. When Mark finally called them to check on it, they said they had no record of our order! We eventually found the receipt and realized that they had it under some random person in Michigan's name. URG!

I ordered Hope a new comforter and dust ruffle since the first one we got isn't working right now. So I place the order on-line and never get a confirmation or anything that my order went through. But, yesterday, the comforter arrived on my doorstep. And was the dust ruffle (bedskirt) with it? NO! Instead I had some connector things to connect pipe to hose (I think that's what they did anyway). No receipt or anything. So I go into the store and am standing under the words jcp.com and the lady said they didn't deal with online stuff in the store. She didn't know anything. Not even if I should have gotten a receipt or packaging slip. URG!

And now for the biggie!! I get a call last Sunday from my husband- one week after we moved in- that we had a leak. Something about when the toilet flushed. Didn't think too much of it.... until I came home and found one of my good vases half full of nasty water on my great room floor catching drips from the ceiling- about 2 inches from the couch. (Thankfully, despite my repeated requests, the rug had not yet gotten down in there). I was then told that they turned the water off for the whole house so no going potty. EEK! Mark had put in a call, but we had no idea if/when anybody was coming. After about 5 hours (I left to go potty and get dinner), they came to reset the toilet. Evidently, it was the plumbers fault, he installed it wrong. The same guy also installed our downstairs toilet, which meant they needed to get it out and check it too. Meanwhile, I had a hole in my great room ceiling. They ended up fixing the leak on Sunday night, but then they have to come a put up a little tent that took up about 1/4 of my great room and work on drying it out. So that took 2 days. Then the drywall guy needed to come and fix the even bigger hole. Then the painter has to come and repaint the ceiling and the two walls they ruined. Maybe someday the room will be functional. Meanwhile we had to move the furniture out of the way, so everything is in a big mess. It has been over a week, and we still don't have everything done. URG!!!

These are just the highlights. Many other things have gone wrong too. Who knew so may headaches came with being a homeowner?? In the first 2 weeks of a brand new house especially!!

Don't get me wrong- I love my new house (except that new cabinet smell- makes me gag every time I open one), I just didn't know so many things could go wrong so quickly. I'll stop complaining now, just saying why things have been so hectic!!

I am so sorry that things have been so crazy! That is so frustrating. Will be praying that things go better for you and remember to take it as easy as you can with the baby!
